Contiki FAQ - cleveland

Q: In Cleveland, how long do you spend in the rock and roll hall of fame?
A: You get about 90 minutes to spend in the rock and roll hall of fame. There is lots to see here if you are interested and a cafe for those that are not interested. The time is enough if you have an interest in it, but not enough if you are a fan.


Q: What happens in Cleveland at night with contiki?
A: This is a relative quiet night. There is bowling near the hotel. There is also food at the bowling alley and a bar. Most people go here. There are some good food places near the hotel as well. After bowling, a lot of people head back to the hotel and relax or have room parties.

Q: What happens with contiki in Cleveland?
A: You arrive in Cleveland and first visit the rock and roll hall of fame for a few hours. After this you get take to the hotel. That night you may go to the bowling alley down the street a few blocks for food, drink and bowling or you may eat at places around the hotel. Next morning you get back on the coach and leave the city.

Q: Do you get much time to explore the city of Cleveland?
A: There is not much time to go explore. You get into the city fairly late and leave early the next morning.

Contiki FAQ Warsaw

Q: In Poland, heading for Warsaw, do you stop to see the Black madonna?
A: With contiki, heading from Krakow to warsaw you make a few stops. One of these is at Częstochowa, where there is the Black madonna. You get time to go up and see it. The coach parks nearby, you walk up to the church following the crowds and can see in inside. You stay about 45 mins to 1hr here. There are a few shops nearby and the grounds of the church are nice to walk in.


Q: What happens on the night that contiki arrives in Warsaw?
A: This is a long driving day with lots being seen on the drive to the city. You get into the hotel after 7pm. Your tour manager might take you down to the trams and get you into the main square to find dinner. However there are other places to eat around the hotel area. It will also be a quiet night.

Q: In warsaw, what is included on the contiki driving tour?
A: Some of the Jewish quarter things, some parks, the main square and some of the historic areas of the city. You get to drive past some of the interesting buildings as well.

Q: In warsaw, on the night in the city on contiki, what happens?
A: You spend your day doing the usual sightseeing, then come back to the hotel, relax. You then all meet up and go to the last dinner – this is included, there is alcohol included here, from dinner you will head out on the town having drinks and saying goodbye.

Contiki FAQ - Prague

Q: In Prague, does contiki offer pub crawls?
A: Contiki does not offer pub crawls in Prague as either included or an optional. You can however go on one of the many that are going throughout the city. They are all cheap and come with free drinks or shots. The bars are also fun to explore.


Q: In Prague, what is the best way to get around?
A: Walking is the best way, you get to experience the ciy. Plus it is easy get around. You can also take the tram or the subway. Both of these are cheap.

Q: What is Prague castle like?
A: Prague castle is huge, it is also at the top of a hill, so it has great views. It is also free to enter, however if you want to see the various aspects of the castle such as the museums and churches, then you need to pay or get a combo ticket. The castle has lots of history and is worth visiting just to walk around and explore.

Q: In Prague, what is the included contiki bike ride like?
A: This is a cool ride through the city. You see the main sights of the city, pass through the parks, ride through the old town area and the area across the Charles bridge. You see the Lennon wall and stop for pictures. There is rest breaks and time to explore. You also ride through the Jewish quarter. It is only a few hours and it is worth it.


Q: In Prague, what is Charles bridge?
A: This is a bridge across the river, it is close to old town and leads to the castle area. There are lots of statues on this bridge of famous prague and general area people. This is also a very touristy bridge

Q: How long does a contiki tour take to get from Prague to Vienna?
A: You leave Prague early in the morning, make a stop at the bone church outside Prague and then continue on. You make a stop in a small town for lunch and then after lunch you arrive in Vienna and head to the hotel. So maybe 5 hrs at most plus a few stops.


Q: Are there many ATM's in Prague?
A: Yes, there are the usual amount for any city, plenty in the old town areas. They do give out czeck crowns and may have a fee.

Q: Is beer in Prague very cheap?
A: Beer in Prague costs between 2 – 3 Euro. But the beer is very good. However you need to go out of the touristy areas to get this kind of price.

Q: In Prague, where do i get a Jewish quarter combo ticket?
A: You can get one at any of the Jewish quarter museums or synagogs. Just buy a combo ticket and avoid the ticket lines for the other museums. You also get a map so you know where everything is.

Contiki FAQ - Boston

Q: Is it hard to get to the hotel in Boston from the city centre?
A: It is easy to get there. However it is not close and you would need to take a taxi or go in via the contiki coach. You can get on the train, but you need to change trains to get into the city centre.

Q: How long does contiki take to get from New York to Boston?
A: You leave New year by 8am and arrive in Boston about 4pm. However you make at least two stops along the way for rest. But it is a good day spent in the bus.

Q: In Boston, what can you do on a free night?
A: Go out and hit a pub. There may be live music, dancing and good beers. It is a fun way to enjoy Boston.

Contiki FAQ - Albuquerque and Durango

Q: On a contiki tour stopping in Albuquerque, do you get to see much of the city?
A: You don't get to see much of the city. The coach arrives in town, drives through the town to head to the hotel, then next morning, although it is a late start, you drive through again to leave the city. If you are doing the ballooning optional then you will see the city from the air.


Q: In Durango, do you get to see much of the town?
A: You arrive too late in the day to see much and then it is dinner and night activities time. You also leave the next day early. You will not see much of this town.

Q: In Durango, what is the hotel like, that contiki uses?
A: The hotel is more like a motel, rooms on two levels surrounded by the parking lot, with breakfast over at reception. You are not here long enough to do more then sleep anyway. However there is wifi and a washing machine.

Q: What nightlife is there in durango?
A: Contiki usually visits a bar and stays there. This is because it is cheap drinks, there are pool tables and plenty of room. It could be a good night.

Contiki FAQ - Budapest

Q: What are ruin bars in Budapest like?
A: These bars are cool and very popular. They are set up in buildings that are no longer used. There is usually a bar or two, places to sit and maybe a small stage to live music. There are always lots of people here, also locals. It is a good place to hang and get a fairly cheap drink.


Q: In Budapest what is the house of terror museum like?
A: The museum details the experiences of the city and the country under Nazi and then soviet rule. There is lots to see and read and well worth a visit. It is also very draining.

Q: In Budapest what is the walking and driving tour with contiki like?
A: Contiki either drives you to some of the famous locations of the city or they walk you to various points. A local guide comes on the tour with oyu and they point out all the interesting history. There is time for picture stops as well.

Contiki FAQ - Edinburgh

Q: Is it worth visiting Edinburgh castle?
A: It depends if you like castles and museums and history. There is lots to do and see here, as well as the great views. There are a number of museum sections inclufing a war museum. You can also see the great hall and some of the rooms. You can get an audio guide or take a tour. Once you are finished, walk down the royal mile.

Q: In Edinburgh, how hard is it to walk up Arthur's seat?
A: Arthur's seat is the old volcano top, it has good views and well worth the climb and hike to get there. Start on the royal mile, walk to the end, then at the Parliament, turn right, cross over the main road and just follow the path. It is an easy walk, just a bit hilly. Make sure to bring water with you. Allow an hour to get up and back down and you should be fine.

Q: In Edinburgh, what is the Royal mile?
A: The royal mile is a road that leads from Edinburgh castle to Holyrood palace, at the bottom of the hill near Arthur's seat. The road has shops, restaurants, bars, museums and other attractions on it. It is just fun to walk down the road and see what is on offer.


Q: In Edinburgh, what are the ghost walks like?
A: The ghost walks are organized by theme and there are many companies that do them. They walk about town, pointing out history and telling stories. Some go up to carlton hill, others head up to the castle, others do some underground places. All are very good and any one is worth while.

A: Like ghost walks, there are many walkng tours. The main ones cover the castle area, royal mile, grass market area adding in history and mystery. There are special ones that cover the castle, the royal mile or harry potter tours. It depends on what you like, but there should be a suitable one for you.

A: The pub crawls in Edinburgh are just like any other pub crawl, meet at the first bar, then free welcome drink at the next bars that you go to. In Edinburgh all the bars have character, depeding on the night and time of year, they can be crowded, but you will have a good time.

A: The station is located in the middle of the old town/ new town border. It is just as east to get to one as the other, except that you have to go up hills to get to the old town. The station is also very large, but easy to get around.

A: There is a bit of free time, usually in the afternoon to do what you want. There are a few optionals in this city that you can do as well as included activities.

Q: What are some other museums in Edinburgh to see?
A: Go and see the peoples museum, the museum of childhood, the Scottish national museum, the museum on the mound and some of the small museums in the castle. You will learn a lot from these museums and they are interesting.


Q: What are Edinburgh pubs like?
A: They are much the same as any pub that you will find all over the UK. Good food, a range of beers and some interesting people to talk to. The pubs in Edinburgh are slightly more touristy because of their location.

Q: What is the best way to get around Edinburgh?
A: To get from the airport to the city, there is a bus. To get around the old town, it is easy to walk. There is a tram in the new town, but it is not very frequent.

Contiki FAQ - Memphis

Q: In Memphis, how far is the hotel that contiki stays in from the main area of the city?
A: The hotel is on one of the main roads, it is about a 10 minute walk from the Beale street area. The street is a safe street and there is a light rail/ tram going along. A lot of the other main things in the city are within an easy walking distance, except for Graceland.

Q: What is the best way to get around Memphis?
A: In Memphis, everything is within walking distance or it is easy to get to with a simple bus ride. The hotel is within an easy walk of most of the downtown attractions and the city is flat and easy to walk around. There is also the light rail that goes past the hotel anyway.


Q: In Memphis, is Graceland worth visiting?
A: Even if you are not into Elvis, this is still a cool place to explore. Yes lots of tourists come here, but the tour is interesting, there is lots to see. You would probably need at least 2hrs here to explore the house and the museum structures in the visitors centre.


Q: In Memphis, how long should i spend at graceland?
A: You can spend as much time as you want, there is lots to see. However take 45 minutes to see the house, cover the gardens in another 20 minutes and then head back to the start point and take another hour to explore the museums that are down there – the cars and costumes, also take time to explore the shop and have a bite to eat at the cafe.

Q: In Memphis what are some other things to do?
A: There is lots to do in memphis – sun studios, rock and soul museum, various sporting events, places to eat and drink, parks, shops, gardens and other museums.

Q: In Memphis is the rock and soul museum optional worth it?
A: The museum is not that good, there are better music museums such as the one in cleveland, but if you want to go, it is worth a look around and is cheaper as an optional, however it does not take long to go through. 

Q: In Memphis, is it easy to catch a game of sorts?
A: If it is a popular game, most of the group may want to go, so the tour manager may organise this. However you have time to do so if you want to do it by yourself. It is also easy to get tickets online.

Q: In Memphis, what is Beale street like?
A: This is a street that has lots of bars and restaurants. At night the street is closed and everyone is out walking and drinking. It is where the bars spill out with people. It is a fun street. There is also lots of live music in this street.

Q: In New orleans, what are the famous drinks like?
A: In New orleans there are two famous drinks – the hurricane and the hand grenade. Both are very sweet and for some people hard to drink. They are also a bit expensive. That being said, you need to try it to experience it.

Q: In New orleans, what is the du monde cafe like?
A: This is a famous cafe. It also only sells cafe lates and sugary donuts. That being said, it is one of those must trys. The cafe is in the french quarter, has lots of tables to sit at but is also very crowded.

Q: What are some famous drinks to try in New orleans?
A: There are a few famous drinks that you need to try if you go to New orleans, especially on Bourbon street. The hurricane – at pat o'briens. However this drink is lots of sugar. There is also the Hand grenade, grass hopper, milk punch and gin fizz, just to name a few. Some of them are very good, the others very sugary.


Q: In new Orleans, how far is the contiki hotel from Bourbon street?
A: The contiki hotel is located on a main road just on the edge of the french quarter. It is easy to get to the main touristy areas and easy to walk to from the main drinking spots.


Q: What is the weather like in New Orleans?
A: It can be fine or it can be rainy. It is also near the coast and near swamps, so it can be muggy. Be prepared.

Q: In New Orleans can you drink on the streets?
A: Yes you can, but it is best to do it on or near bourbon street, where all the drinking takes place.

Q: In New Orleans, do you loose or gain many people on the half tours?
A: You may loose up to 20 people, but you will get a lot of those numbers back on people joining the tour.

Q: Is New orleans good for shopping and eating?
A: Shopping is good in the french quarter – lots of local shops plus touristy ones. As for eating, there is lots of specialized local restaurants that you can try, as well as various bakeries.

Q: At Cocoa beach, how far is the accommodation from the beach?
A: The hotel is within walking distance. You turn out of the hotel, cross a small road and you are in the parking lot for the pier, about 20 meters later you are walking on sand. It is very close.

Q: What is there to do in cocoa beach at night?
A: There are a few bars in the area, as well as a strip club near the hotel. However there is a good chance to relax or maybe do a few room parties.

Contiki FAQ - Dallas and fort worth

Q: Is the JFK museum in Dallas included with Contiki.
A: This museum is included as part of the contiki trip. Your tour manager gets your tickets and then you can visit the museum at any point on your free day. It is a good museum, lots to see, but you can't take pictures inside.


Q: In Dallas, what is the best way to get around?
A: In Dallas,you can easily walk around the inner city with no problem. There are busses and such to get further out of the city.

Q: In Dallas, can i walk to the Grassy knowl?
A: Yes, it is right near the 6th floor museum and you can also see it from the 6th floor museum.

Q: In Dallas, how long does it take to get to fort worth?
A: It is about a 45 – 60 min trip, depending on traffic.

Contiki FAQ - Santa fe and monument valley

Q: What do you see in Monument valley on a Contiki Tour?
A: On a contiki tour that goes through monument valley, you see the amazing scenery as you drive through the landscape. There are a few stops made. Once is at a visitors centre, where there is a chance to buy stuff, eat and take pictures of the scenery. It is a good stop. Another is the place where forest gump stopped running. There also maybe a few other stops depending on the tour manager. Overall you see and can take pictures of the amazing scenery.

Q: What happens in Santa Fe on a Contiki Tour?
A: You arrive in the city of Santa fe on the coach as part of a stop between two cities. Here is also where the horse riding optional takes place. Those doing the horse riding will have time to grab lunch, then it is back on the coach to the horse riding. Those not doing that optional, spend their time walking around the town square, there are some cool shops to visit and interesting things to see. There is a church that is famous, go see that. Later you meet up again and get back on the coach.

Q: Can i do my washing in the hotel at Amarillo?
A: Yes, there are washing machines and you do have the time to do it. However there are only a few machines available, they cost money and need special powder from reception. This is the first real chance to do it since the tour began and might be the last for a few days.

Contiki FAQ Washington DC

Q: In Washington dc where does the contiki coach pick up and drop off in the Mall?
A: In Washington DC, there is a pick up and drop off to and from the Mall. Usually done in the morning and afternoon. The drop off point is at the old Smithsonian castle area. Just across the mall from the natural history museum.

Q: Where does contiki take you on the Washington city tour?
A: In Washington you arrive at the hotel, check in and then head out again to do a tour of the city. You visit Arlington cemetery, you will drive past important buildings such as the white house and various parks. You make a stop at the capital for pictures. You stop at the Thomas Jefferson memorial, Lincoln memorial, Martin Luther king memorial, drive past the various war memorials and other government buildings. There is too much to see in the city for one tour, so on your free days, come back and see more.

Q: In Washington dc, how far from the city center is the hotel that contiki uses.
A: The hotel is actually a bit out of the city – 30 minute plus coach trip, depending on traffic. However it is very close to the subway station, so it is a short walk to the station and a 10 minute trip into the city. It is also in a nice area.

Q: The hotel in Washington dc does not serve breakfast, where can i get breakfast?
A: There are a few places near the hotel. There is a burger king next door and a few coffee shops between the hotel and the station. The other alternative is to head to walmart before you arrive in the city and pick up a few things.

Q: In Washington dc how do you get around?
A: In the mall area of the city it is easy to just walk around. You can hire a bike and ride from area to area. Getting to the hotel, you may need to use the subway. Overall it is every easy to get around this city.

Q: In Washington dc, are there lots of food trucks, where are they?
A: There are a lot of different food trucks, they are in and around the Mall area. They have fast service and good food.

Q: In Washington dc, how can i hire a bike to ride around the city?
A: There are bike stations all around the city, just go up to one, put in a credit or debit card, get a bike and then ride around the city. The bikes have different rates per hour and you can drop it off at another station along the way.

Q: In Washington, contiki takes you on a lights of the city tour, where do you go?
A: On the lights of Washington tour, you go past the capital, lincoln, jefferson, martin luther memorials, making stops for pictures, drive past the various war memorials and the washington monument and drive around the city. It takes a few hours due to traffic.

Contiki FAQ - General Germany

Q: On a Contiki travelling through Germany, do you make many stops at towns?
A: Apart from the sleeping stops, main stops in Germany occur at road side rest stops. You do visit the occasional town such as Dresden, but mainly it is the rest stops and the main cities where you will sleep or explore.

Q: What does contiki see and do in St Goar?
A: St Goar is on the Rhine river. The coach arrives in the town, you head to the beer stein place, you can purchase some steins, walk around the shop and then explore the town, see the cookoo shop etc. Your tour may then do wine tasting where you can try some ice wine and purchase some. Later you may have an included dinner or a walk about dinner, then head to the hotel for an early night as you may have Amsterdam in the next few nights, or you may have come from there.


Q: How long is nuremberg by train from Munich?
A: It is about a 2- 2.5 hr trip by train.

Q: How far is the nazi party rally grounds from the centre of nuremberg?
A: It is about a 10 minute drive from the centre of the city. Or there is a bus. There is lots to see here including a museum, so plan to spend a few hours here.

Q: What is the best way to get around Nuremberg?
A: The best way is to walk around, as everything in the centre is close together. For anything further away, get on a city bus.

Q: In Hannover, is it easy to get around?
A: If you are staying in the city centre, then you can walk around the city centre quite easily. You many need a car to go further.
